In Globeandmail.com , The Canadian Lung Assn is quoted as saying, " We realize (stoves) are killing people. Wer'e coming out like we did in the 70's when we said smoking cigarettes would kill you one day". "We're telling people that if they are using woodstoves... some people are choking and dying".
These are very strong words that I think led to the ban on woodburning in Hampstead-Quebec and possibly Houston-British Columbia. The monitoring study by the Canadian Lung Association in Houston and other cities also probably had an effect. It showed a pm concentrationof 80mcg/m3 of pm2.5, 24 hr hour ave as a 5 city ave in the Houston area. This is seroius pollution that violates national stds (30 mcg/m3) and by definition shows threats to life and health that have to be protected by law with no discretion to not enforce. This and other material is the smoking gun that all the victims have been hoping would be found, in my opinion.
